Snowy Winter Engagement Session at McDonald Park in Abbotsford | Alecia & Sean

There is something incredibly romantic about a snowy winter engagement session, especially when the couple embraces every moment together no matter how cold it gets. Alecia and Sean’s engagement session at McDonald Park in Abbotsford turned into a beautiful winter adventure filled with laughter, love, and a little bit of popcorn chaos.

When we first began planning their engagement photos, the vision looked completely different. Alecia and Sean wanted to create a cozy and romantic drive-in movie-inspired engagement session because one of their favorite things to do together is watch movies. We had planned a fun setup that would capture their relationship in a unique and personal way. However, British Columbia weather had other plans for us.

After an unusually mild winter, temperatures suddenly dropped just before their session date and covered Abbotsford in fresh snow. By the day of the engagement session, McDonald Park had transformed into a winter wonderland. While the snowy scenery was absolutely stunning, it also came with freezing temperatures and intense wind that had all of us questioning whether we could still feel our fingers and toes.

Despite the cold weather, Alecia and Sean made the entire session so much fun. They spent the evening keeping each other warm, laughing nonstop, and fully embracing the unexpected winter conditions. Their chemistry and ability to enjoy every moment together made photographing them effortless. Sometimes the best engagement sessions happen when things do not go according to plan, and this was one of those moments.

Even though the original drive-in movie concept had to be adjusted because of the weather, we still managed to incorporate a little movie-night inspiration into the session with a playful mini popcorn fight. Watching the two of them throw popcorn at each other while laughing in the snow created some of the sweetest and most genuine moments of the evening. It perfectly reflected their relationship — fun, relaxed, and full of joy.

McDonald Park in Abbotsford provided the perfect backdrop for this winter engagement session. The fresh snow covering the trees and pathways created a soft and romantic atmosphere that felt almost magical. Snowy engagement sessions have a way of making everything feel intimate and timeless, and Alecia and Sean’s photos captured that feeling beautifully.

One of our favorite things about engagement sessions is getting to tell a couple’s story in a way that feels personal to them. Whether everything goes according to plan or the weather surprises us, the most important thing is capturing authentic moments and genuine connection. Alecia and Sean’s session was a reminder that sometimes unexpected weather can create the most unforgettable memories.

If you are planning your own engagement session in Abbotsford or the Fraser Valley, do not be afraid to embrace the season. Winter engagement photos can be romantic, cozy, and incredibly unique — especially when you are willing to laugh through the cold together.

We are so excited for Alecia and Sean as they continue planning their wedding day, and we feel incredibly lucky to have captured this snowy chapter of their story.
